"Ambition is a positive, desirable trait in a person," I agree with this statement. However, there is a difference between greed and ambition. I think to much greed is bad and I think ambition is positive. Ambition can be wanting to learn, wanting to do things that interest you, your goals or your desire to complete something that you want to complete. I think everyone has ambition to do something it is just how hard you try to complete it.

 "Some things are destined or fated to happen," i agree with this statement. Death is great example of something that is destined or fated to happened. I am not saying that you cannot effect anything that happens. I am saying that there are things that happen to everyone, like family members dying, car accidents, getting injured, etc. I am not trying to say that my opinion is right or wrong, just letting you know my opinion on the statement. 

Hit or Miss

The poetry unit was defiantly a miss because I did not understand it. There was too many components  to the unit, like the vocabulary and precision is needed when understanding/analyzing poems. This was defiantly not a hit for me, however many people thought that this was hit, but I did not. I am not trying to convince people that the poetry unit is a miss, just letting people know what I think. The unit might have been a miss, but it was not a complete miss.

A major hit this year was when we read The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian even though  we did not have many graded assignments for the novel, I still liked the book. The book was a hit for me because the book was very interesting and not a slow read. This book helped me develop my annotating skills and introduced annotating to me. I think many other people enjoyed the book as well as me. Overall the year has been a hit for me and I hope it continues.

Purple Hibiscus

Purple Hibiscus has been a great book so far. There have been many highlights and depressing chapters in the book. I look at the book like as it was a life lesson story. They have been many life lessons that I have got from the book. I try to look beyond the text in the book. I think the text in the book is a gateway to something much greater. As I read I try to get something much more than a shared story.

I highlight points and passages that I think are important to the story and the overall picture. I usually try to write some points or my opinion to the underlined sections. If I don't understand a passage, I usually re-read the passage. If I find a point that I can add to my side or entree, I usually stop and add it to my side/entree. Overall, my reading has been successful.

    I would like to live in the country. Right now I live in the city, but we have 5 acres of land right by my house in town. I would like to live in the country because I don't like Neighborhood associations because I think all they do is complain because they are bored. I also like a lot of land because I like to ride atv's and mow the grass with a tractors. My dogs love to run around and sniff everywhere.
    
    The country is also very peaceful and quiet. I can hunt or skeet shoot in my backyard if I lived in the country. You can get so much more land for the same cost in the country rather than the city. I know this might be weird, but your less likely to get mugged in the country. I just like the country and that is where I want to live.

Trump signed a bill that drives funding to NASA. The funding that NASA will receive is about 19 billion dollars. The average cost for a rocket launch is about 1.5 billion dollars. The research and experiments eat up a lot of the 19 billion dollars. NASA has launched about 135 rockets since they were started in 1958. Space exploration has always been a controversial topic. Going to Mars and maybe starting a colony on Mars has been a dream of many, but many people do not think that space exploration is a waste of money and the United States should not do it anymore. Elon Musk's Space X is a revolutionary company because they created a rocket that can go into orbit and come back down and either land on land or on a barge in the ocean. This is really amazing because this has never been done and most defiantly not a a barge in the ocean that is moving because of the waves.

I believe in space exploration and going to Mars because out planet cannot last forever. I chose this article because this topic interests me and it was recently written. What is your opinion on this topic and has your views changed over the years?

Learning Reflection

Ninth grade year has gone by fast. I hope it keeps going at this pace because the summer is not too far away. I have learned many things this year so far. I have learned about how hard Biology is. I have learned about poetry and learned new vocabulary words. In the fourth quarter I will try to make the most of my time and try to be efficient.

I usually don't focus when I am doing my homework. In result, my homework takes a lot longer than it should. So if I pay more attention and just focus it should take less time. This year has been about the same as last year, but I liked last year better than this year. Hopefully the fourth quarter will be as good as the last three quarters.

Three days weekends are the best. The regular weekend is just too short because it is always crowded with studying and school work. Procrastination is a big problem for me on the weekend. I always study Sunday night only. I am trying to fix this and it is working pretty well. As you can see because I am writing this blog now and it is Friday.

Getting my work done early is always helpful because you can always do things with friends last minute. If I did not do my work earlier, then I probably could not have gone with my friends. A weekend is supposed to be a break from school. Most of the time I feel like it is not because of all of the work and studying. To try to solve this problem, I try to do all of my work Friday night.

Internal rhyme is used "Let it rain, I hydroplane into fame" rain, hydroplane and fame are great examples of rhyming words. These words have a rhyming "A" which makes them an maple of an internal rhyme. Sibilance is used when she says "sun shines, we'll shine together" the rhyming of the "s". The repetition of the "S" in these neighboring words make it an example of Sibilance. Slant rhyme is used in the song when she says "So go on and let the rain pour I'll be all you need and more" the endings rhyme. The "O" at the end of the lines make this an example of a slant rhyme.

Alliteration is used in the song, see here "It's pouring rain, it's pouring rain Come in to me, come in to me" the "C's", "P's" and "M's" make it alliteration. The similar sounding letters in the beginning of neighboring words make it alliteration. The song has many poetic terms that can be seen in the lyrics. Songs that you might know very well might have poetic terms that can be seen in the lyrics.

I wrote a check to my friend, the beneficiary because I owed him money. My friend thought that I was credible because he knew me very well, so he was not worried about getting his money. He told me that he was looking for two people who were indicted in the murder. My friend's name is Johnson and he is a police officer. He always tells me stories of the cases that he is involved in.

One time he told me a story about how he was chasing a white McLaren mp4-12c because the driver was going over 150 mph!! He told me that the only way that he could catch him is with the helicopter. So, he dispatched the helicopter and the helicopter looked around for 30 min trying to find the car. The helicopter pilot did not find the car, but about a week later Johnson saw the same car. He could not pull over the car because there was not way of determining that it was the car he saw that day or the same driver.

Research

I have learned to many things so far about research. One is giving my thoughts and opinion of a excerpt that I used in the research. Before I would just briefly skim over how the evidence supports my claim. Now I have realized that you should "weave" your paper together and connect it all to your thesis/claim. I try to expand as much as I can on the evidence that I use to support my thesis/claim. I have learned things from this research that will help me later on for papers/research to come.

There are still some things that I am still confused or challenged with when writing a paper/research. I still have some trouble embedding my quotations. I would like to learn more about how to make the best of what information you have. Overall, I am happy with the research process so far. I think I will be well prepared for the next research/paper I have.

Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian reading response to page 101

Many key pivotal points in the book has happened in the last 50 or so pages. It seems that Arnold has some problems getting to school, whether that is no gas in the car, the car broke down or his dad is drunk. This shows the reader how people on the reservation do not put school first and school is just like a "if I can make it" type of thing. When Arnold can't get a ride from his parents, he can usually catch a ride from someone going into town, but if he can't there is not point of going to school because it would take hours for him to get to school. I kinda feel bad for Arnold because when he first arrives at school, many people give him looks and calls him names. Arnold gets there looks because he is the first Indian to get to the white school.

When Arnold punches Rodger in the face, it is a big shock for his gang and himself. This shows the reader how different life is on the reservation compared to the white town. Arnold feels bad because Rodger thought that Arnold was a savage and mean. I think that it was necessary for Arnold to punch the main gang member in the face because he would just be bullied more and more. Arnold earns respect from Rodger and it shapes the way the students and teachers think of Arnold. Arnold is in love with Penelope and it seems that Penelope keeps ignoring Arnold. It is pretty funny when Arnold dresses up as a homeless man for halloween and so does Penelope, however Penelope is protesting the way people treat the homeless and Arnold did it because it was easy/cheap.

Mardi Gras break, nine days to do whatever you want. Mardi Gras break is a break that is perfectly timed every year because it gives you a taste of summer. There is a lot of things to do during the week, going to parades, skiing, the beach...etc. Mardi Gras was invented in Mobile, Alabama, even though many people might assume that it started in New Orleans. Many of the parades in New Orleans are Uptown. My favorite part about Mardi Gras besides a break from school is the king cakes.

There are over 60 flavors of king cakes ranging from the classic cinnamon to Pineapple Pecan. There are hundreds of floats that are created each year just for Mardi Gras. Tourism is booming during Mardi Gras because everyone wants to experience it and go to the parades. Every time I go to a parade, I always get hundreds of beads and they weigh a lot. I never know what to do with all the beads because they don't really have a purpose beside decoration. Overall, Mardi Gras is a fun and enjoyable time and I look forward to this coming Mardi Gras Break.

Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian reading response

     A lot has happened in Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian up to page 53. I kinda feel bad for Arnold because he is trapped in the reservation with people who had given up on life and he only has one friend. Arnold like to draw because he feels that the whole world can understand the message he is trying to portray, but with writings, you have to know the language to understand the meaning. Arnold's family pet(Oscar) was shot by his father because they could not afford the medicine to cure the dog. From Arnold having Hydrocephalus to his dog being shot, the first two chapter are pretty depressing and sad. The readers build empathy for Arnold because of his sad, harsh and cruel life in the rez. 

     I think the most important part of the book so far is when Arnold and Mr. P sit down and have a talk. Arnold throws a book at Mr. P because he is mad that the book was the same book that his mom used in school. That is how sad and depressing the rez is because the rez teaches the people the same material every year. Mr. P talks to Arnold about leaving the rez because Arnold is always fighting for a better life and the rest of the people in the rez has given up. I like this book so far and it goes fast when I read it. The book has some funny jokes too, which make it funny to read. Hopefully the book will not be as depressing later on.

My Research Topic

My research project is on the 1936 Summer Olympics and Hitler's belief's. The Summer Olympics wherever controversial and were held in Berlin, Germany. My research question is "How did Hitler's agenda affect the olympics?" Hitler tried to show that the Nazi Party was peaceful and tolerant of people. He tried to gain followers of The Nazi Party by promoting Nazi Ideology. There were over 300 million people listing to the games on the radio, that is a very large number beach it was in 1936. I will talk about how Hitler did not want certain races and cultures to participate in the games because   it played a key role in why people boycotted the olympics and why people did not like the olympics.

I think this topic is interesting beach the Olympics were hosted in a country that people did not know much about because it was just after World War I. The equivalent of this today would be hosting the Olympics in North Korea. This event matters because it shows how corrupt and "fake" the Nazi Party was. The Nazi party would take all of their cruel signs down before the olympics and if you wanted to be a Nazi leader they trace your heritage 4 generations back to make sure you do not have Jewish heritage. I am pretty happy with the way my project so far. Hopefully the transition from outline to draft will be easy.

Last Semester

I learned a lot about High School in the last semester. Last year was a fairly easy year and it was my favorite year at Episcopal so far. This year is more difficult, but I have more freedom than last year. Last year I was in soccer and it was easy to manage life and school work. This year I am in soccer and it is much more time consuming than last year. Because soccer is much more time consuming and High School is more difficult, managing my life and school work is a lot harder.

The first few tests and quizzes in High School made me realize that things are going to be different. I changed my game plan about how I was going to study for tests and quizzes. Now I study a few days before I have tests and quizzes. I have a game plan now and it seems to work really good, so I am going to stick to that plan next semester. I hope that my second semester of ninth grade will be smoother than the first semester. High School is a lot different than Middle School, but I enjoy High School a lot more than Middle School.

2017

     A year has passed and everybody celebrates for the New Year. People seems to always be in a time crunch, with work,school or family. I want my 2017 to be enjoyed and fulfilled to the max and enjoy the little things. I don't like to be always in a time crunch. I will try to plan better with my academic work so, I will have more fee time to do things that I enjoy. It might be a new year, but things always seem to be about the same. People might home that things will change and they might, but the overall big picture is the sane. Just try to tweak the little things for 2017 because it's best to stay true to who you are.

    Thi year I will hopefully get my drivers license and a car. I want to try to eat healthier and stay healthier in 2017. I hope to raise my GPA up this year because I know I can do better. This year I will push my self to try new things and get out of my comfort zone. I want to get better at golf this year, so I will probably join the golf team. I want to work more efficiently and never give up when it gets tough. Hopefully 2017 will be an amazing year and one for the books.

Research Project Update

I am working on a project for Social Studies and English. My topic for the project is the 1936 Olympics. This topic has been a challenge for me, in a sense to find credible and help sure for my project. the question I am answer with my project is "How did Hitler's agenda affect the Olympic Games?" I had to find 10 sources for my project and some of those sources had to be a primary source. The next step was to annotate 6 sources that you found and 2 of them had to be a primary source. The annotations were due last Thursday and my English and Social studies teacher gave us a lot of time to work on them in class. The time that the teachers gave us in class helped me a lot. The annotations were just for english class and they will be very helpful when I do my project and paper. Almost everything I need for the project and paper is in the annotations I made. 

My Social Studies teacher assigned a minimum of 35 notecards due by this coming Wednesday. Another requirement is that you have to have at least 5 notecards for at least 7 sources. I think the annotations and the notecards will be beneficial for my project and make the final project a lot easier to complete. The hard part is completing all the elements such as the annotations and the notecards. Overall my research project process is going smoothly. All of the tasks for this assignment will be done in just a couple of weeks, which is hard to believe because there are a lot of parts to complete. Overall my research project process is going smoothly with no major problems.
